PM Narendra Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Three New Delhi Metro Corridors on March 8

The Phase-V(A) expansion reflects continued efforts to upgrade infrastructure and provide reliable public transport options to residents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V(A) on March 8, 2026, marking a significant step toward expanding the capital’s rapid transit network. The foundation ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 AM at DDA Ground Burari, where several officials and residents are expected to attend.

The upcoming corridors are part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen urban mobility in the national capital. By expanding the metro network into new areas and extending existing routes, the project aims to make daily commuting faster, more convenient, and environmentally sustainable.

Delhi Metro: Three Corridors to Boost Connectivity

Ramakrishna Ashram Marg – Indraprastha Corridor

  • Length: 9.9 km
  • Identified as the Central Vista Corridor
This route will improve metro connectivity in central Delhi, linking key institutional and administrative zones. It is expected to ease traffic congestion in busy areas and provide a convenient public transport option for thousands of daily commuters.

Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj Corridor

  • Length: 3.9 km
  • Part of the Golden Line Extension
The corridor will connect important residential and commercial areas in South-East Delhi. The extension is likely to benefit people living around Tughlakabad, Kalindi Kunj, and nearby localities by offering faster metro access.

Aerocity – IGI Airport Terminal-1 Corridor

  • Length: 2.3 km
  • Also under the Golden Line Extension
This corridor will strengthen airport connectivity by linking Aerocity with Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-1, making travel easier for passengers and airport staff.

Improving Urban Transport Infrastructure

The new metro corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time across several parts of the city. With Delhi’s growing population and increasing vehicular traffic, expanding the metro network has become crucial for maintaining efficient urban mobility.

Officials believe that the extension will also reduce pressure on road transport and help cut down vehicular emissions, contributing to improved air quality in the national capital.

Towards a Modern and Sustainable Delhi

The Delhi Metro project has long been considered one of India’s most successful urban transport systems. The Phase-V(A) expansion reflects continued efforts to upgrade infrastructure and provide reliable public transport options to residents..

With the addition of these three corridors, the city will move closer to a more connected and sustainable transport network, supporting the broader vision of building a modern and developed Delhi.
