As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, political tensions in the state are intensifying, and verbal spats between parties are escalating. In the latest development, Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and recently expelled from the party, has launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, calling him the “biggest goon” in Bihar politics.
The comment comes on the heels of a heated exchange inside the Bihar Assembly between Samrat Choudhary, a senior BJP leader, and Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap’s younger brother and RJD leader. During the confrontation, Choudhary referred to Lalu Yadav as a “criminal,” triggering a sharp response from Tej Pratap.
"Samrat Choudhary is the biggest goon" – Tej Pratap Yadav
In an interview with News24, Tej Pratap said, “Samrat Choudhary, who now sits as Deputy CM in the Assembly, is the biggest goon in Bihar. No one is bigger than him. He constantly targets us, and yet no action is taken against him. He himself faces criminal cases.”
In the same interview, Tej Pratap also took aim at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of corruption. Referring to the CM’s habitual belly rubbing during Assembly sessions, he remarked sarcastically, “Nitish Kumar keeps rubbing his stomach because he’s always full from corruption. You’ve seen it in the House — he’s hoarded it all.”
Clips from the interview, part of News24’s ‘Chai Wala Interview’ series with journalist Manak Gupta, have since gone viral on social media.
To Contest from Mahua as an Independent Candidate
Despite being ousted from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and his family home for six years, Tej Pratap has confirmed that he will contest independently from the Mahua Assembly seat, the same constituency from which he made his electoral debut in 2015, securing a win.
“I have no plans to launch a political party,” he clarified, putting an end to speculation. His move sets the stage for a high-stakes contest in Mahua, a seat that has remained with the RJD since 2000.
The Mahua constituency, is known for its dominant Yadav and Muslim population, along with a sizable Scheduled Caste demographic. Tej Pratap’s exit from the RJD now opens questions around who the party will field in this crucial seat.
