Punjab Cabinet approves compensation for farmworkers for crop losses and declared national holiday on Labour Day

Punjab: On Friday, the Cabinet approved paying compensation to farmworkers for crop losses. During the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared, "Now, not only the farmers, but the labourers will also be compensated." He said that if a farmer received Rs 15,000 per acre in compensation for crop loss, the workers in his fields would also receive Rs 1,500 per acre.

The Cabinet approved the early release of lifers being held in state prisons

The CM announced that the state government would shortly launch a campaign to register workers in order to enable them to take advantage of numerous Central and state-sponsored programmes. In addition, he declared May 1 to be a national holiday in honour of Labour Day. The Cabinet also extended the period of the 2.25 percent stamp duty and fee exemption for land registration until May 15 in another decision. The Cabinet approved the early release of lifers being held in state prisons. In accordance with Article 161 of the Constitution, the Governor would be presented with certain instances for his consideration.

Employees will begin receiving their salaries and pensions

The Cabinet also agreed to change the compensation scales for faculty members at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), effective January 1, 2016. These employees will begin receiving their salaries and pensions in April 2023. The creation of the Punjab Advocate General (Group A) Service Rules, 2023, was also approved by the Council of Ministers. This would control the services provided by Group A personnel working for the Advocate General's office. The Cabinet also gave the go-ahead to hire experts for environmental improvement, groundwater table monitoring, breaking the wheat-paddy cycle, and farmer financial condition improvement. The Cabinet authorised the reform of the Punjab State Sports (Group A, B, and C) Service Rules, 2023, with the goal of promoting sports culture.

Removal Of 75 gramme panchayats from Ajnala block

The Cabinet also approved the creation of Ramdas block in the Amritsar district by removing 75 gramme panchayats from Ajnala block. The Council of Ministers also observed a two-minute moment of silence in memory of Parkash Singh Badal, a former five-time chief minister.
