Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann says previous leaders 'backstabbed their own community': 'Amassed huge wealth by plundering the public money'

Taking a dig at former Punajab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, CM Bhagwant Mann said that some self-proclaimed leaders of the weaker and underprivileged sections ruined the future of youth by stealing their scholarship money.

Bhagwant Mann slams opposition

The CM told a gathering at a function organised by the Sri Guru Ravidass Sadhu Sampraday Society that those who claimed to be their leaders had abandoned the poor. The Chief Minister claimed that previous governments were rife with corruption, and that ministers and other leaders looted public funds.

WIthout naming Channi, Mann said, “These leaders backstabbed their community. They always misled people and didn’t take a single step to uplift the weaker sections.”

“These leaders amassed huge wealth by plundering the public money. They sought votes in the name of eliminating poverty, but even after 75 years, the menace continues to jeopardise the progress of the state and its people,” Mann said.

He also attacked SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal for his “baseless statements” against the state government. “This reflects the feudal mindset of these leaders who cannot digest that a government is working sincerely for the welfare of the common man. These leaders were rejected by the people due to such an anti-people mindset,” Mann said.

'People receiving zero electricity bills'

Speaking of his government's accomplishments, he stated that since taking office, his administration has undertaken numerous pro-people initiatives. He claimed that his government was providing free electricity to residents, as a result of which 80 percent of people were receiving zero bills.

Mann stated that more than 9,000 acres of land had been liberated from the illegal occupation of the wealthy.
