Punjab Government Accuses Centre of Interference in Sidhu Moosewala Mother’s IVF Case, Details

Punjab's Health Secretary receives a show-cause notice for an IVF process, which has led to accusations of Centre meddling. This has escalated tensions in the state.

Sidhu Moosewala

Sidhu Moosewala: According to news agency ANI, the Punjab Government on Thursday served state Health Secretary Ajoy Sharma with a show-cause notice for contacting the Centre regarding Sidhu Moosewala’s mother’s IVF procedure without first bringing the problem to the notice of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Within two weeks, Sharma has been asked to respond to the question of why disciplinary action shouldn’t be taken against him.

AAP Leader’s Allegations

Speaking about the matter, AAP leader Malvinder Singh Kang claimed that the Punjab Health Secretary had received a letter for failing to notify the state’s chief minister and health minister of the problem. He also claimed that the Centre was interfering with the state.

“We have also issued a letter to the Punjab Health Secretary asking why did he not bring the letter to the knowledge of the CM and Health Minister of the state. There is full interference from the Government of India. Punjab Government has nothing to do with this,” he said.

Notice from Punjab Government

The party also shared a copy of the notice which read, “Under the Section 21(g) of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, the age limit prescribed for a woman going under ART services is between 21-50 years. Therefore, you are requested to look into the matter and submit a report to this department of the action taken in this case as per the ART (Regulation) Act,n2021.”
