The UT administration had already received the in-principle agreement from all other stakeholders before the Punjab government on Monday gave its clearance for purchasing land that is under their purview. A knowledgeable official claimed that 54 square kilometres of land must be purchased in order to build the alternative route. At least 14 miles of this lay under the purview of the state of Punjab, whose approval had been pending for years. Punjab will immediately start buying land that is on its side, the official continued. “The new route will begin around 200 metres before to the T-point intersection of Purv Marg (coming from Tribune Chowk) and Vikas Marg (coming from Sector-43 ISBT). The Chief of Air Staff and the Director-General of Defence Estates had received a communication from the Ministry of Defence regarding the granting of working permission to the international airport for the construction of the alternative route and the No-Objection Certificate to construct the road within 100 metres of a defence installation’s boundary.
