Punjab man reunites with mother after 30 years during flood rescue mission: ‘I was the unlucky son’

Punjab man unites with mother

Punjab news: Destiny works in mysterious ways. In what can be termed miraculous, a man reunited with his mother after 3 decades in Punjab. A flood rescue volunteer, the man was told his parents died in a car accident in childhood. As someone who deemed himself an orphan, he did not expect to meet his mother post 30 years.

Tragedy reunites man with mother

Jagjit Singh, a devotional singer in Boharpur village of Patiala, who has been at the forefront of flood rescue missions with his NGO amid the havoc wreaked by monsoon rains had encountered many accounts of lost and found tales. But never did he ever picture one happening to his own self. In a mission last week, Jagjit found his mother whom he had last met when he was just six months old. Jagjit met his mother after three decades at his maternal grandparent’s home in Patiala village last week. On July 20, he came to Patiala with his NGO to carry out rescue work following the destruction caused due to recent monsoon fury.

Aunt arranges reunion

Jagjit recorded the entire episode on Facebook Live, failing to contain his emotions. He also shared how his aunt(but) set up this reunion for him and told him that his nani’s house was also in Patiala. “She vaguely revealed that it was Boharpur village where my maternal grandparents might be living,” he said.

Jagjit reached Boharpur and met his maternal grandmother, Preetam Kaur. “I started asking her questions. She became suspicious initially but after she revealed that my mother Harjit had a son from her first marriage, I broke down. I said I was the unlucky son, one who could not see his mother for over three decades,” he said.

Bitterness leads to separation

Due to bitterness between his maternal and parents grandparents, Jagjit was never told that his mother was alive. He came to know that his mother was alive only five years ago. “But I had no more information as my grandfather and all my relative including my taya (uncle) and tayi ( aunt), who knew about my parents had passed away,” he said.

After reuniting with her son, Harjit Singh not only finds her son but a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter.
