Punjab minister promises to eradicate TB in state by 2025

TB eradication: Punjab government has promised to eradicate TB from the state by the year 2025. Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra said that the government has set a target to identify and treat at least 70,000 TB patients in 2022-23.

Working in this direction, Jouramajra said eight districts had already received bronze category certification while in the coming year five more districts will be brought in the silver category and three more in the bronze category.

Workshop conducted by MGSIPA

He said a workshop was organised at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) in Chandigarh, as a part of the nationwide efforts by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) in this regard.  Acting in collaboration with partners, private sector, patients and communities, the department aims to find, test and treat more and more TB cases. It will also measure progress and identify gaps for course correction.

Nikshay Mitras initiative

The minister also said the department had recently organised a state-level meeting of about 40 business houses of the state, where he appealed to them to enrol themselves as Nikshay Mitras. He also instructed the DTOs to get in touch with the business houses and take the plan to the next level. TB elimination programme is ambitious and may seem difficult but there is no doubt that with collective efforts it would be achieved, said Jouramajra.
