Punjab News: Today, the second day of the monsoon session, has seen a major move in the Punjab Assembly. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann tabled the “Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Amendment Bill 2024,” which is in line with its earlier promise of bringing about big changes in the procedure for property registration in the state. CM Mann termed this bill as “NOC Bill.”.
Simplified Property Registration with No NOC Required
During the proceedings, CM Mann informed that registration of plots up to 500 yards would not require an NOC under the new bill. He said that the motive behind this is to ensure that the process of registration would be much easier on the people, and access to all facilities was easily availed. It was further added that this move of bringing in the bill speaks to the intent of the government to iron out property laws in the state and remove friction and bureaucratic barriers on the part of Punjab’s citizens.
Apart from smooth process of registration, the bill also includes stern action against illegal construction. CM Mann claimed that strict action must be taken against those who develop illegal colonies, which create a number of problems for the residents in the long run. The amendment bill carries heavy fines, ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 5 crore, and a minimum sentence of 5 years while extending up to 10 years for those found guilty under the act for illegal construction activities.
Streamlined Registration Process
The bill having been introduced, the Punjab Legislative Assembly adjourned its proceedings till 2:30 pm and discussions on the amendment bill were likely to be resumed after lunch. As of now, doubts are raised whether the bill would be approved on the day, but a decision is expected to be taken after the scheduled discussions in the house. The “Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Amendment Bill 2024” is an important landmark in dealing with property development in Punjab and ensuring that illegitimate construction activity is effectively curbed.
