Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang has submitted an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha, demanding an immediate discussion on the ongoing hunger strike by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and other pressing issues faced by farmers. Kang’s notice highlights the critical condition of Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for the last 22 days to protest against unresolved farmers' grievances.
Farmers’ Issues Take Center Stage in Parliament
In his letter addressed to the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, Kang described farmers as the “backbone of the nation” and stressed the urgency of addressing their concerns. He pointed out that the prolonged hunger strike of 70-year-old Jagjit Singh Dallewal has brought widespread distress among farmers to the forefront. According to medical reports, Dallewal’s health is deteriorating rapidly, making the matter even more critical.
Call for Immediate Action
“As we all are aware, farmers play a crucial role in the country, and currently, they are facing several pressing issues,” Kang wrote in his motion notice. He urged the Speaker to adjourn all other business of the house to prioritize a discussion on the farmers' crisis.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Kang called for collective action to address the immediate concerns of farmers, emphasizing the need for the government to intervene and provide solutions. His notice underscores AAP’s commitment to raising farmers' voices at the national level.
This motion aligns with growing political attention to the plight of farmers, especially those protesting against policies and delays in resolving key issues such as Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees and debt waivers. The hunger strike by Dallewal has become a symbol of the struggles faced by farmers across the country, amplifying calls for urgent government intervention.
The Lok Sabha is yet to confirm if the motion will be taken up for discussion, but the demand reflects the escalating importance of addressing farmers' grievances at the highest levels of governance.
