Anurag Dhanda: AAP Announces Power Tariff Cut in Punjab, Promises Cheaper Electricity Alongside Free Units

The policy also seeks to support middle- and lower-income households who are most affected by rising utility costs.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda has announced a fresh राहत for electricity consumers in Punjab, stating that power tariffs will be reduced even as the existing free electricity benefit continues.

Anurag Dhanda: AAP Announces Power Tariff Cut in Punjab

According to the statement, from April onwards, consumers in Punjab will not only receive up to 600 units of free electricity but will also benefit from a reduction of ₹1.5 per unit in power tariffs. The move is being positioned as a major relief measure ahead of the peak summer season, when electricity consumption typically rises.

Promises Cheaper Electricity Alongside Free Units

The announcement highlights the state government’s continued focus on reducing the financial burden on households, especially during months of high power usage due to cooling needs. Lower tariffs combined with free units are expected to significantly cut electricity bills for a large section of consumers.

Officials suggest that the decision is aimed at improving affordability while ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the summer. The policy also seeks to support middle- and lower-income households who are most affected by rising utility costs.

The development comes under the broader governance framework of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with the AAP government consistently emphasizing subsidized electricity as a key welfare measure.

Energy sector observers note that while such subsidies provide immediate consumer relief, they also require careful financial management to ensure long-term sustainability of the power sector.

The announcement is expected to have a direct impact on household budgets, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas, where electricity consumption tends to spike during extreme weather conditions.
