Anurag Dhanda: AAP Leader Defends Punjab’s Farmers, Blames Delhi Government for Rising Pollution

The major cause, he noted, is vehicular emissions. He argued that blaming Punjab’s farmers for the smog in Delhi is misleading and ignores the city’s own systemic issues.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda has taken a firm stand over the ongoing pollution crisis in the national capital. He defended Punjab’s farmers, accusing the Rekha Gupta government of administrative failure in managing Delhi’s worsening air quality. Sharing a newspaper clipping, Dhanda pointed out that Punjab’s stubble burning contributes “less than 3%” to Delhi’s pollution, according to recent reports. His bold remarks have sparked widespread discussion.

Cites IITM Pune Report

Dhanda referred to a research report by IITM Pune, which states that stubble burning contributes only marginally to Delhi’s overall pollution levels. The major cause, he noted, is vehicular emissions. He argued that blaming Punjab’s farmers for the smog in Delhi is misleading and ignores the city’s own systemic issues.

Takes Charge in Defending Farmers

Standing firmly with Punjab’s farmers, Dhanda highlighted data showing a significant decline in stubble burning cases since the AAP government came to power in Punjab. According to him, the number of such incidents has dropped from 3,114 in 2022 to 415 in 2025, reflecting the government’s consistent efforts to raise awareness among farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Blames Mismanagement, Not Farmers
The AAP leader asserted that the Delhi government’s mismanagement and lack of long-term planning are the true reasons behind the capital’s toxic air. “Holding Punjab’s farmers responsible for Delhi’s pollution is neither fair nor factual,” Dhanda said, emphasizing the need for practical, city-focused solutions.
