Anurag Dhanda, senior leader and national spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party, on Saturday drew a comparison between electricity policies in Punjab and Haryana, claiming that people in Punjab are receiving significant relief in their power bills while consumers in Haryana are facing higher tariffs.
Anurag Dhanda Highlights Power Tariff Difference Between Punjab and Haryana
In a post shared on social media, Dhanda said the difference between the two states’ power policies is “clear.” According to him, the government in Punjab has been working to reduce the financial burden on households by providing free electricity and lowering power tariffs.
He stated that under the current policy, around 90 per cent of households in Punjab are already receiving zero electricity bills for up to 300 units of power consumption. For the remaining consumers, he claimed that the government has reduced electricity rates by up to ₹1.55 per unit, providing additional relief to residents.
Dhanda said these measures have helped many families manage their monthly expenses and ensured that electricity remains affordable for a large section of the population in Punjab.
At the same time, he criticised the situation in Haryana, alleging that electricity prices in the state are significantly higher. According to Dhanda, people in Haryana are paying up to ₹7.10 per unit for electricity, which has led to higher monthly bills for many households.
He cited an example claiming that while some consumers in Punjab receive zero bills for 300 units of electricity, people in Haryana could end up paying around ₹2,130 for the same consumption, highlighting what he described as a sharp difference in electricity costs between the two neighbouring states.
Dhanda further said that affordable electricity is an important part of welfare policies aimed at supporting common citizens, and he urged governments to focus on measures that provide relief to the public rather than increasing their financial burden.
