Anurag Dhanda: As devastating floods continue to wreak havoc across Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anurag Dhanda has sharply criticized the central government for its silence and inaction. Calling the situation unprecedented, Dhanda urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set aside politics and immediately intervene to support the state.
Anurag Dhanda Slams Centre Over Lack of Flood Relief for Punjab, Urges PM to Intervene
Speaking on the current crisis, Dhanda said, “What is shocking is that the central government has not announced any financial aid to Punjab in a flood situation of this scale, which has come after decades and has destroyed infrastructure. This is not the time for politics, the PM should intervene and extend all possible help.”
The floods, triggered by heavy and continuous rainfall across several districts, have submerged vast areas, damaged roads, swept away crops, and displaced thousands of families. Local authorities are struggling to provide relief as water levels in rivers and canals continue to rise.
Dhanda emphasized that Punjab cannot handle the crisis alone
Dhanda emphasized that Punjab cannot handle the crisis alone and needs urgent assistance from the Union government. He called for a special relief package, swift deployment of NDRF teams, and long-term infrastructure support to rebuild affected areas.
AAP leaders and volunteers have been on the ground distributing food, water, and medical supplies. However, party officials say the scale of destruction demands a national-level response.
The Punjab government has already declared several districts as flood-affected and submitted a report detailing the extent of damage to both property and agriculture.
