Bhagwant Mann: In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police, through its Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), has arrested a key operative linked to foreign-based gangster networks during a joint operation with SAS Nagar Police.
Bhagwant Mann: Weapon recovered during operation
Officials confirmed the recovery of a .32 calibre pistol along with five live cartridges from the accused, indicating preparedness for potential criminal activity.
Links to foreign-based handlers
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was acting under instructions from handlers based abroad and had been assigned multiple targets across the Tricity region, including Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.
Major threat neutralised
Authorities stated that the timely arrest has helped avert potentially serious criminal incidents in the region, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-based operations.
Follow-up to earlier crackdown
The arrest comes in continuation of an earlier joint operation on April 18, where a gangster module was busted with four accused being apprehended, pointing to a wider network under surveillance.
Probe to expand network trail
Investigators are now working to establish forward and backward linkages of the module to identify additional associates, financiers, and handlers involved in the network.
Focus on dismantling organised crime
The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling organized gangster networks and maintaining law and order across Punjab.
Enhanced inter-agency coordination
Officials подчеркнули that increased coordination between specialized units like AGTF and local police has strengthened the state’s ability to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
The operation marks another step in Punjab’s ongoing efforts to curb organized crime and ensure public safety under the broader security framework.
