Mann said, “This is a historic step to rejuvenate the lifelines of Punjab’s villages. The upgrade of rural roads will not only boost local economies but also ensure road safety and convenience for lakhs of citizens.”

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Punjab’s road network, with special focus on quality execution and transparency.

The announcement came during a live session from Chandigarh, where the Chief Minister addressed contractors and agency representatives at the ‘Road Infrastructure Development Meet’. He emphasized that this project is not just about repairing roads but about strengthening the backbone of Punjab’s villages. “Strong rural infrastructure is the foundation of a strong Punjab. Our villages deserve the same quality of roads and services as our cities,” Mann stated.

Officials say the large-scale project aims to revive worn-out roads that are critical for daily commutes, agricultural logistics, emergency services, and school transport in villages. Mann also directed officials to ensure timely completion, strict quality control, and transparent implementation of the roadwork, warning that any negligence will not be tolerated.

The government plans to monitor the progress closely through a digital dashboard and periodic inspections. The initiative is also expected to generate employment in rural areas during the execution phase, providing a short-term economic boost while laying the groundwork for long-term connectivity and development.
