Bhagwant Mann Announces Punjab’s Biggest-Ever Rural Road Construction Plan

In a major upgrade, the scope has now been expanded to 44,920 km, involving a significantly enhanced budget of ₹16,209 crore.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a massive expansion of the state’s rural road infrastructure, calling it the largest road construction initiative in Punjab’s history. The announcement was shared through his official social media handle, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving last-mile connectivity across villages.

Earlier, the Mann government had initiated the construction of 19,373 km of rural link roads at a cost of ₹4,092 crore. In a major upgrade, the scope has now been expanded to 44,920 km, involving a significantly enhanced budget of ₹16,209 crore.

This upgraded plan is expected to drastically improve connectivity between villages, enhance transportation for farmers, boost rural trade, and support socio-economic development across Punjab’s hinterland.

Bhagwant Mann’s official statement read:


“ਸਾਡੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ 19,373 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਲਿੰਕ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ 4092 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਡੇਟ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੁੱਲ 44,920 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਸੜਕਾਂ 16,209 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗੇ। ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੜਕ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।”

Translated, he said:
“Our government started the construction of 19,373 km of rural link roads at a cost of ₹4,092 crore, and now we are updating it to a total of 44,920 km of roads with a cost of ₹16,209 crore. This will be the biggest road construction in the history of Punjab.”

Officials noted that the project will not only accelerate mobility but also strengthen access to schools, hospitals, mandis, and public facilities in rural belts, ensuring inclusive development.
