Bhagwant Mann: a significant development, Punjab Police has arrested fugitive Amritpal Singh Mehron, the main accused in the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as Kamal Bhabhi.

The arrest comes after his deportation from the Middle East. Officials described the operation as a major breakthrough in the case.

Bhagwant Mann: Accused arrested at Delhi airport after deportation

According to police officials, Amritpal Singh Mehron was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of April 10, 2026.

The operation was carried out with the support of central agencies and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) under the Counter Intelligence Wing. Authorities confirmed that he was brought back to India following coordinated efforts.

Crime dates back to June 2025

The case relates to an incident on June 11, 2025, when the accused, along with three associates, allegedly abducted and murdered the victim in Bathinda.

Police said the victim’s body was later abandoned in a car parked near Adesh Hospital. The case had triggered widespread attention due to its nature and the victim’s social media presence.

Co-accused already in custody

Officials confirmed that the other accused involved in the case had already been arrested earlier. Investigations had been ongoing to trace the main accused who had fled the country. Law enforcement agencies continued to pursue leads, eventually locating him in the Middle East. Extradition proceedings were initiated soon after.
