ISI-Backed Module Suspected
Preliminary investigation suggests that the module was allegedly backed by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Police said the accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based handler operating from abroad, who was allegedly directing terror-related activities in Punjab.
Planned Attack and Reconnaissance
Officials revealed that on the intervening night of March 29–30, 2026, the accused retrieved hand grenades, conducted reconnaissance, and executed the attack. The group had reportedly been radicalised and was targeting police establishments.
Financial Incentives and Radicalisation
Investigators indicated that the accused were motivated with promises of substantial financial rewards for carrying out the attack. Authorities are probing the extent of radicalisation and recruitment methods used by the handlers.
Legal Action and Investigation
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to identify both forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network.
Commitment to Security
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, stating that strict action will continue against anti-national elements.
The development comes as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb cross-border terror networks and ensure stability in the region.
Police sources said efforts are now focused on identifying the broader network, including financiers, local facilitators, and cross-border handlers. Authorities are also analysing digital communication and financial trails to map the entire ecosystem behind the module.
Strengthening Border Security Measures
The case has once again brought attention to the importance of border security and surveillance. Agencies are continuing to enhance monitoring systems, including the use of technology and coordination with central forces, to prevent infiltration and smuggling of weapons.
