In a major anti-narcotics breakthrough, Bhagwant Mann dismantled a well-organised heroin trafficking network following a two-month intelligence-based operation led by Faridkot Police. Officials confirmed the arrest of six accused, including one serving Army personnel and one dismissed police official, indicating the syndicate’s deep-rooted links and operational reach.
Bhagwant Mann Busts Heroin Trafficking Network
Authorities reported the recovery of approximately 4.8 kg of heroin, a weapon, and two vehicles allegedly used in the smuggling operation. Investigators stated that those arrested are linked to multiple cases under the NDPS Act and were under surveillance before coordinated action led to their capture.
Police said an FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the network, including suppliers, financiers, and distribution channels. Officials emphasised that dismantling the entire chain remains a priority to prevent resurgence of similar drug rackets.
The operation is part of the state’s broader anti-drug drive, which the administration under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly described as a top law-enforcement priority. Senior officers reiterated that intensified intelligence gathering, inter-district coordination, and targeted raids will continue across Punjab to curb narcotics trafficking and maintain public safety.
Six Held After Two-Month Operation
Officials added that forensic examination of seized materials and digital devices is being conducted to gather technical evidence that could strengthen the case in court. Investigators are also analysing call records, financial transactions, and travel patterns of the accused to identify any interstate or cross-border connections tied to the smuggling network.
Security agencies indicated that intelligence inputs gathered during the operation may help uncover additional associates and sleeper links connected to the syndicate. Special teams have been tasked with following these leads to ensure that no remaining members of the network continue illicit activities.
