Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann congratulated the Indian women’s kabaddi team after it defeated Iran 37-34 in the final to win the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The victory marked India’s fourth women’s kabaddi gold in Asian Games history.
Mann praised the players for their performance and described the achievement as a proud moment for the country. He said the team’s success has brought recognition to India’s traditional sport of kabaddi.
India Defeats Iran in Thrilling Kabaddi Final
The Indian women’s team secured a hard-fought 37-34 victory over Iran in the gold-medal match. India led 22-16 at half-time before holding off Iran’s challenge in the second half to clinch the title.
The result also saw India reclaim the women’s kabaddi title after Iran had won the final against India in 2018. India had previously won gold in 2010, 2014 and 2022.

In his message, Mann said the Punjab government is committed to providing athletes with facilities of international standards. He also called for collective efforts to promote kabaddi and further develop the sport.
The Chief Minister said the achievement of the Indian women’s team reflects the contribution and potential of women athletes while celebrating their success on the Asian Games stage.
Indian Women’s Kabaddi Team Makes History
The 2026 gold adds another chapter to India’s strong record in women’s kabaddi at the Asian Games. The team has now secured four gold medals across the five editions in which women’s kabaddi has been contested, with its only silver medal coming in 2018.
