In addition, the state has announced affordable electricity rates for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, with tariffs set at ₹5 per unit.

The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has announced new electricity tariff reductions, highlighting what it described as “revolutionary steps” in the power sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

According to the announcement, the state government will continue its free electricity scheme for households, while also reducing power tariffs for several consumer categories. Officials said the move is aimed at providing relief to residents, traders and industries while strengthening the state’s power infrastructure.

Commercial and Industrial Consumers

Under the revised tariff structure, domestic electricity rates have been reduced by ₹1.50 per unit, offering additional financial relief to households across the state. The government said this step will particularly benefit middle- and lower-income families.

The reduction also extends to commercial establishments. Electricity for shops has been made cheaper by 79 paise per unit, a move expected to support small businesses and local traders by lowering operational costs.

Industrial consumers will also benefit from the new tariff policy. Electricity for industrial units has been reduced by 74 paise per unit, which the government believes will encourage industrial growth and make Punjab a more attractive destination for investment.

In addition, the state has announced affordable electricity rates for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, with tariffs set at ₹5 per unit, placing Punjab among the states with the lowest EV charging power rates in the country. The step is aimed at promoting the adoption of electric vehicles and supporting the transition toward cleaner transportation.

The revised electricity tariffs will come into effect from April 1, as part of the government’s broader effort to balance consumer relief with sustainable power sector management in the state.
