The Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has unveiled a series of key initiatives aimed at strengthening early childhood education across the state. Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur shared the details during a press conference, highlighting the government’s focus on improving learning outcomes for young children enrolled in playway schools and anganwadi centres.
Bhagwant Mann Review of Playway Schools
As part of the reform measures, the government will conduct a comprehensive review of children attending playway schools. The objective is to assess learning standards, classroom practices, and overall child development at an early stage, ensuring that foundational education is aligned with age-appropriate learning goals.
Syllabus Implementation in Anganwadi Centres
The Mann government has also decided to implement a structured syllabus in anganwadi centres across Punjab. To support this transition, anganwadi workers and supervisors are being provided specialised training, enabling them to deliver curriculum-based learning more effectively while focusing on cognitive, social, and emotional development of children.
Mission Aarambh for Parental Engagement
Under Mission Aarambh, parents of children attending anganwadi centres will receive a daily list of activities. This initiative aims to actively involve parents in their child’s early learning journey, encouraging learning beyond classrooms and strengthening coordination between anganwadi workers and families.
Focus on Strong Educational Foundations
The government stated that these measures are designed to build a strong educational foundation during early childhood, which plays a crucial role in a child’s long-term academic growth. By standardising learning, enhancing teacher training, and involving parents, the Punjab government aims to raise the overall quality of early education.
Commitment to Education Reforms
The Mann government has reiterated its commitment to transforming Punjab’s education system, starting from the grassroots level. Officials said that continuous monitoring and feedback mechanisms will be put in place to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives across the state.
