Bhagwant Mann Government Highlights Canal Water Expansion for Farmers

The projects are also expected to contribute to environmental sustainability and more balanced use of natural resources in Punjab’s agriculture sector.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has said that the Punjab government’s efforts to expand canal water access are helping transform agricultural practices and improve irrigation facilities for farmers across the state.

In a public statement, Cheema said that the state government has undertaken multiple projects, including the construction of new canals, strengthening of water channels, and installation of pipeline networks to ensure that canal water reaches agricultural fields more efficiently.

Bhagwant Mann: Focus on Sustainable Irrigation

According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at reducing farmers’ dependence on electric motors and groundwater extraction by improving the availability of canal water for irrigation purposes. He stated that the government is working toward enabling paddy cultivation with reduced reliance on tube wells and electricity-powered irrigation systems.

Officials said the expansion of canal infrastructure is expected to support water conservation efforts and improve irrigation management in farming regions of Punjab.

Agriculture and Water Conservation Remain Key Priorities

The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly emphasized the importance of strengthening agricultural infrastructure and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Authorities believe that better canal connectivity can help farmers reduce irrigation costs, improve crop productivity, and lessen pressure on depleting groundwater resources. The government has also been promoting measures related to water management and agricultural modernization as part of its rural development agenda.

Farmers Expected to Benefit From Improved Water Access

Officials stated that increasing the reach of canal water can provide long-term support to the farming community by ensuring more reliable irrigation facilities during cultivation seasons. The projects are also expected to contribute to environmental sustainability and more balanced use of natural resources in Punjab’s agriculture sector.
