Bhagwant Mann: In a major step towards bringing more advanced technology into Punjab’s education system, the Bhagwant Mann government has introduced 25 AI-based Career Guidance Labs in government schools. These labs will provide students with data-driven insight into their academic choices and possible future careers, allowing them to make more informed decisions.
According to state officials, these Labs will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide each student with individualised career guidance based on analysing their interests, strengths and learning styles. Therefore, the AI will recommend the best possible career options, higher education avenues, vocational programs, and employability skills for each student based on their specific strengths and preferences.
AI Personalised Career Planning
The AI systems installed in these Career Guidance Labs will provide interactive tools and assessments that evaluate students’ aptitude and preferences. Students who complete these assessments will receive customised career guidance that differs from traditional counselling methods and may include integration with further education, vocational training, and employability skills. Training personnel will work with students to help them understand the outcomes or choices the AI system provides.
Bridging the Guidance Gap in Government Schools
Addressing the lack of structured careers guidance provided in Government Schools is a primary focus of the Programme, particularly in rural and underserved communities. The initiative provides information about potential careers that students would not normally have access to by introducing AI-based career guidance in the classroom.
Preparing students for the Changing Workforce
The initiative is also part of a larger effort in Punjab to align education with the growing workforce needs of the future, as emerging technologies are reshaping industries. Early exposure to career options and digital resources can help students begin making realistic career decisions and developing future-oriented skills.
Possibility to Scale Across the State
The move to introduce AI-powered career guidance labs has been supported by education experts as a forward-thinking step in public education. If the pilot project works successfully, the government plans to expand AI-based career guidance labs to other schools across the state of Punjab.
