The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has intensified its focus on elderly welfare with the launch of the ‘Sade Buzurg Sada Maan’ (Our Elders, Our Pride) campaign. The initiative, which began in Mohali, aims to provide free healthcare, financial assistance, and social security to senior citizens across the state.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that elders who dedicated their entire lives to their families and society are now the government’s top priority. He emphasized that the campaign will continue across Punjab through a series of free health care camps.
Bhagwant Mann: Free Health Camps and Cataract Surgeries
As part of the campaign, the government is organizing free medical camps offering essential health services to elderly citizens. A major highlight of the initiative is the provision of free cataract surgeries, ensuring better eyesight and improved quality of life for senior citizens.
Senior Citizen Cards and Pension Support
Under the drive, Senior Citizen Cards will be issued to eligible elderly residents, helping them access various government welfare schemes more easily. Additionally, old-age pension forms are being filled on the spot, reducing procedural hurdles and ensuring timely financial support for beneficiaries.
Free Distribution of Assistive Devices
The campaign also includes the free distribution of wheelchairs, spectacles, and hearing aids, addressing mobility, vision, and hearing challenges faced by the elderly. These measures are aimed at providing comprehensive health and social support under one platform.
Government’s Commitment to Elderly Welfare
Harjot Singh Bains stated that the Mann government is committed to ensuring economic security, healthcare access, and social dignity for senior citizens. He added that the initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of inclusive governance and people-centric welfare policies.
The ‘Sade Buzurg Sada Maan’ campaign is being seen as a significant step towards strengthening Punjab’s social welfare framework, with plans to expand the programme to more districts in the coming weeks.
