In a major breakthrough under the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government’s crackdown on drugs and organised crime, the Amritsar Rural Police, with active support from the Village Defence Committee (VDC), have busted a large narco-arms consignment, dealing a significant blow to drug and weapons networks operating in the state.

According to Punjab Police, the operation led to the recovery of 42.983 kg of heroin, along with four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges, and an abandoned motorcycle. The seizure highlights the growing nexus between drug trafficking and illegal arms supply, which authorities are aggressively targeting.

Two Accused Arrested, Probe Ongoing
Following the recovery, police arrested two individuals, both residents of Amritsar. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace absconding accused, verify the chain of possession, and uncover the wider conspiracy linked to the seized consignment.
The police are also examining possible cross-border and inter-district links, given the scale of the recovery and the nature of the weapons involved.
