According to the minister, expanding access to canal irrigation will help reduce farmers’ dependence on tube wells, which have contributed to the continuous decline in groundwater levels in many parts of Punjab. Barinder Goyal stated that the investment of ₹7,572 crore has enabled canal water to reach farms across Punjab, marking a significant step in improving irrigation infrastructure.
