The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is taking several initiatives to strengthen the state’s sporting legacy and create better opportunities for young athletes, according to Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Cheema highlighted a record ₹1,744 crore allocation for sports, along with the development of 3,100 modern sports grounds and 1,000 modern gyms across the state. He said these measures are aimed at improving sports infrastructure and encouraging greater participation among Punjab’s youth.
Bhagwant Mann: Focus on Modern Sports Infrastructure
The development of modern playgrounds and gyms is being positioned as a key part of Punjab’s efforts to provide young people with improved facilities for training and physical fitness.
The government is also highlighting major sporting initiatives, including the Asian Hockey Championship and Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, as part of its broader sports development agenda.
Encouraging Punjab’s Sporting Talent
Cheema said the initiatives are intended to provide young athletes with stronger platforms to develop their skills and pursue opportunities at higher levels of competition.
Punjab has historically played a significant role in Indian sports, particularly hockey and athletics. The government’s stated objective is to strengthen this sporting ecosystem through increased investment, modern infrastructure and wider participation.
