Bhagwant Mann Government Tightens Noose on Crime as Punjab Police Busts Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module in Amritsar

Bhagwant Mann: in a significant breakthrough against organised crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module linked to Pakistan-based handlers. The operation resulted in the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of six sophisticated pistols, including two Glock pistols and four .30 bore pistols, along with two live cartridges.

According to Punjab Police, the accused were actively involved in trafficking illegal weapons and supplying them to gangsters in Punjab on the directions of foreign-based handlers. The recovery highlights the continued attempts by cross-border networks to destabilise peace and security in the state.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act at Police Station Islamabad, Amritsar, and further investigation is currently underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the network. Police officials are also working to identify other associates and financiers connected to the module.

The action comes amid the Punjab government’s intensified campaign against gangsterism and organised crime under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The state has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards criminal networks, especially those with cross-border connections threatening internal security.

Senior police officials reiterated that Punjab Police remains fully committed to dismantling organised crime syndicates and ensuring peace and safety across the state. Recent operations reflect coordinated intelligence-based policing aimed at breaking the supply chains of illegal arms and curbing gangster activities.

The successful bust is being seen as another major step towards the government’s goal of making Punjab free from gangsterism and illegal weapons.
