As part of the consistent fight against organized crime in the region, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has scored another pivotal victory. The Punjab Police apprehended eight pistols belonging to the notorious Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang after a focused operation in Jalandhar.
The recovery is yet another triumph in the state’s campaign to abolish criminal enterprises and restore law and order across Punjab. The pistols are believed to have been used in dozens of illegal enterprises associated with Jaggu’s network.
Details of the Operation
According to senior police officers, a unit of the anti-gangster task force (AGTF) conducted a meticulously planned raid on 31 October 2023 after receiving detailed intelligence to assist in their mission. The police recovered a stockpile of 8 pistols, several live cartridges, and other items of evidence from the possession of individuals with supposed ties to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria network.
Initial inquiries suggested the weapons were sourced through a formal interstate arms pipeline. According to police sources, investigations are underway to trace the source and other members of the chain.
Bhagwant Mann’s Zero-Tolerance Policy
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stressed on more than one occasion that his government will have zero tolerance against gangsters and organised crime, commending the police for their swiftness. Mann reiterated the state’s commitment to safety and justice for all.
“The days of fear and lawlessness are gone. Punjab is not going to tolerate criminal syndicates that disturb peace and destroy lives,” Mann said last week in a public speech.
Since he launched the state’s “War on Crime,” the state government has enhanced police capabilities with new technology, policing based on intelligence, and community cooperation.
The Larger Crackdown
The Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang — which was engaged in extortion, drug trafficking and weapons smuggling for some time — has always been on the police’s radar. The Punjab Police disrupted another significant link in the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang following the latest recovery.
Officials expect a strong message to be conveyed to other criminal outfits in the region. The government continues to show its determination to carry out a mission to make Punjab a safer, crime-free state.
A Move Towards a Safer Punjab
The Bhagwant Mann government’s repeated stance against gang violence is slowly beginning to yield benefits. The people of Punjab have commended the Punjab Police and their unwavering commitment to seek justice and reduce crime in the province.
As the ‘War on Crime’ continues, Punjab stands resolute on its journey toward peace, stability, and prosperity — with law enforcement and leadership working together for a safer future.
