Punjab has received a major boost in industrial development with the Centre approving four semiconductor plants in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, involving a total investment of ₹4,594 crore. Under this plan, Mohali will host a high-value semiconductor project worth hundreds of crores, which is expected to play a significant role in the growth of not just the state but the entire country.
Mohali Semiconductor Project to Boost Employment in Punjab
Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu informed that the Mohali project will produce around 158 million units of semiconductors annually. These components will cater to multiple sectors, including automobiles, defence, and solar energy.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has welcomed the project, calling it a gateway to large-scale employment opportunities for Punjab’s youth.
Bittu said the initiative will not only create local jobs but also attract both small and large-scale investments to the state. “This is just the beginning. More big projects will follow, strengthening Punjab’s economy and opening new avenues for the educated youth,” he stated.
Bittu added that the establishment of the semiconductor industry in Mohali will create local employment opportunities, encourage both small and large-scale investments, and particularly benefit educated youth. Calling this just the beginning, he said that more large-scale projects are expected to come to Punjab following the success of this initiative.
Officials believe the project will be a milestone for the state’s economy and job creation, paving the way for Punjab’s emergence as a hub for high-tech manufacturing.
