Bhagwant Mann Police Bust ISI-Sponsored BKI Terror Module in Jalandhar, Key Operative Arrested With Hand Grenade

Investigators are now working to establish the wider structure of the alleged network, including the identities and roles of foreign-based handlers and any local support elements.

In a major operation against cross-border terror networks, Bhagwant Mann Police said its Counter Intelligence unit in Jalandhar, working jointly with SBS Nagar Police, has busted an alleged ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and arrested a key operative.

According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, an 86-P hand grenade was recovered from the arrested accused, preventing what police described as a planned attack. The development was announced on August 10, 2026.

Bhagwant Mann: Grenade Allegedly Collected From Dead Letter Box

Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused allegedly obtained the grenade from a Dead Letter Box (DLB) near Adampur in Jalandhar, following instructions from handlers based abroad, police said.

A DLB is a covert method used by criminal or terrorist networks to transfer instructions or material without requiring handlers and operatives to meet directly.

The alleged use of such a mechanism has prompted investigators to examine how the module was operating and whether additional individuals were involved.

FIR Registered in SBS Nagar

Punjab Police said an FIR has been registered at Police Station Sadar Nawanshahr in SBS Nagar district under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.

Investigators are now working to establish the wider structure of the alleged network, including the identities and roles of foreign-based handlers and any local support elements.

Probe Underway to Trace Wider Network

Police said the investigation will focus on uncovering the module’s forward and backward linkages, including the source of the explosive material, communication channels and individuals who may have assisted the arrested operative.
