Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Police Bust Drug Supply Module Linked to Foreign Smugglers; 4 Kg Heroin Recovered

Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has busted a major drug supply module with links to foreign-based smugglers, arresting three operatives and recovering a large consignment of narcotics and arms. The action is part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on organised drug networks.

According to the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab Police, the operation was carried out after swift analysis of forward and backward linkages of the network. During the raid, police recovered 4 kg of heroin, one pistol along with a magazine, five live cartridges and ₹3.90 lakh in drug money.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested operatives were in contact with a foreign-based handler identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Baba Lakha. The network is also linked to Daya Singh alias Preet Sekhon, who is currently lodged in the Central Jail.

An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to trace additional links in the smuggling chain.

Punjab Police said it remains firmly committed to eliminating drugs and dismantling narco networks across the state, reiterating that strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking.

CM Mann reiterated that the war against drugs is being fought on multiple fronts, including strict enforcement, intelligence-based operations and financial disruption of narco networks. He added that coordinated efforts between state police units and central agencies are strengthening Punjab’s ability to track both domestic and foreign-based handlers.

The Chief Minister also emphasized that alongside strict action, the government is focusing on rehabilitation and awareness to build a drug-free Punjab. He assured citizens that the Punjab Police will continue to act decisively to break the supply chain and ensure peace, security and a safe future for the state’s youth.
