Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Police Busts Pakistan-Operated Arms Smuggling Network; Six Arrested

These consignments were then retrieved and distributed within Punjab.

Bhagwant Mann : The Punjab Police has successfully cracked down on a Pakistan-backed cross-border arms smuggling module, following swift action taken by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the police arrested six operatives, including one juvenile, and recovered six sophisticated pistols — five of .30 bore and one PX5 9mm.

Direct Links With Pakistan-Based Handler

According to initial investigations, the accused were in direct contact with a handler based in Pakistan, who used social media platforms to communicate and share GPS coordinates for dropping weapon consignments near the border. These consignments were then retrieved and distributed within Punjab.

Officials revealed that the organised network was supplying arms to criminal gangs operating in the Majha and Doaba regions, enabling them to execute planned unlawful activities. The detection of this module is being seen as a major blow to cross-border criminal operations.

FIR Registered; More Arrests Likely

A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar. The police have launched a deeper probe to uncover:

  • The receivers of the recovered weapons
  • Possible financial routes used to fund the smuggling
  • The module’s backward and forward linkages within and outside India

Officials suggest that more arrests are expected as the investigation expands into the wider network.

Punjab Police Reiterates Commitment to Public Safety

The DGP’s office emphasised that Punjab Police remains firmly committed to dismantling cross-border arms smuggling modules and ensuring the safety and security of citizens. Increased surveillance, strengthened intelligence coordination, and proactive field operations are being implemented to curb such threats.

This breakthrough once again highlights the ongoing challenge of Pakistan-backed attempts to destabilize border regions and the continued vigilance of Punjab’s law enforcement agencies.
