In a significant intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police successfully busted a cross-border organised arms smuggling module, arresting six individuals involved in illegal arms trade. The crackdown reflects Punjab Police’s firm commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state.

The investigation revealed that the smuggling syndicate was run by Mehakpreet Singh @ Rohit under the instructions of his foreign-based handlers, coordinated via social media platforms. The sophisticated operation was systematically unraveled over several stages of inquiry.
Initially, Pargat Singh was arrested carrying two pistols sourced from cross-border consignments. The probe then led to the arrest of Ajaybir Singh, Karanbir Singh, and Shri Ram, each found in possession of additional weapons. The kingpin, Mehakpreet Singh, was apprehended in Goa with three more pistols.
During the operation, Dinesh Kumar was arrested with ₹5.75 lakh in hawala money, which was being used to channel proceeds of the illegal arms trade.
