Punjab’s fight against drugs has seen significant progress, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government and police have achieved remarkable success in curbing drug trafficking and abuse across the state. Yadav emphasized that it is no longer easy to smuggle drugs into Punjab.
Over 13,000 Arrests and 8,344 FIRs Registered
The DGP revealed that so far, 8,344 FIRs have been registered related to drug offenses, and 13,036 arrests have been made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This includes the apprehension of 1,696 major drug traffickers.
Massive Seizures of Narcotics
During operations, police have confiscated:
586 kilograms of heroin
247 kilograms of opium
253 kilograms of cannabis
1.6 kilograms of ice (methamphetamine)
Along with other narcotic substances.
Additionally, cash worth ₹10.76 crore in hawala money has been seized.
Properties Worth ₹74.27 Crore Seized
Yadav also reported that 144 properties linked to drug trafficking have been seized, with an estimated value of ₹74.27 crore. These assets were acquired through illegal drug proceeds.
Rehabilitation and Monitoring Efforts
The police are also supporting drug quitters by providing medical aid and counseling services. Strict monitoring of drug traffickers released from prisons is underway to prevent relapse into criminal activities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated, “We are taking strong steps to completely eliminate drugs from Punjab, and we are beginning to see positive results.”
The Punjab government has made it clear that a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs is being enforced, with plans to intensify the crackdown further in the future.
The Punjab Police, in collaboration with local NGOs and institutions, is running awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and rural areas to educate youth about the dangers of drugs. “Community support is key to making Punjab drug-free,” the DGP added.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reiterated his government's firm commitment to eradicating drugs from the state. He recently chaired high-level meetings with law enforcement and health officials, emphasizing an aggressive crackdown on smuggling routes, peddlers, and corrupt networks.
