In a significant step towards strengthening emergency response infrastructure, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the allocation of ultra-modern firefighting equipment and vehicles to various fire stations across the state. Speaking LIVE from Mohali, CM Mann reiterated that citizen safety remains the top priority of the state government.
"The safety of the citizens of Punjab is our top priority. We are handing over state-of-the-art firefighting equipment and vehicles to fire stations in various districts," Mann tweeted in Punjabi and Hindi, highlighting the government’s push for modernization.
The move comes amid heightened national tensions due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, with increased security concerns along Punjab’s border regions. Ensuring preparedness for emergencies, both man-made and natural, has become even more urgent. Several border districts have already been put on high alert, and anti-drone systems have been deployed as per the latest cabinet decisions led by Mann.
Fire Incidents On the Rise
Over the past year, Punjab has witnessed a rise in fire-related incidents, particularly in urban areas with congested infrastructure. Short circuits, industrial mishaps, and crop stubble fires have all contributed to frequent calls for better firefighting capabilities. With this in mind, the newly allocated vehicles are expected to feature water cannons, high-pressure hoses, thermal sensors, and rescue ladders—essential tools for rapid response.
Government’s Broader Emergency Plan
This initiative is part of the Bhagwant Mann government’s larger commitment to creating a safer, more resilient Punjab. Just days earlier, the state also announced free medical treatment for war and terrorism victims under the Farishta Scheme. Additionally, 9 anti-drone systems were deployed from Pathankot to Abohar to thwart cross-border smuggling and surveillance threats from Pakistan.
The Chief Minister’s office emphasized that Punjab is ready on all fronts—not only against terrorism and smuggling but also for any internal emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, or sabotage attempts.
As the situation along the border remains tense, the Punjab government’s proactive steps aim to instill a sense of security and preparedness among its citizens.
