CM Mann’s Promise: Special Girdawari to Ensure Compensation for Every Farmer

Punjab govt launches special girdawari to assess paddy crop losses from floods and viral outbreak; promises compensation, seeds, and fertilizer for affected farmers.

CM Bhagwant Mann

The recent floods and viral outbreak in Punjab have dealt a severe blow to the paddy crop. The hard work of lakhs of farmers was destroyed in an instant. But in this difficult time, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government is standing firmly with the farmers. To provide them with relief and justice, the Mann government has launched a special girdawari (damage assessment) survey so that every loss can be accurately recorded, and every farmer can receive their rightful compensation.

This initiative of the Mann government makes it clear that farmers in Punjab will not be left alone. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh personally visited the ground to review the situation and assured farmers that the government considers their hardships a top priority. The government has also clarified that affected farmers will not only receive compensation but will also be provided with high-quality seeds and DAP fertilizer for the next crop.

In Patiala district, Dr. Balbir Singh and a team of agricultural experts visited villages to assess the condition of the paddy fields. They appealed to farmers not to plough their crops until the survey is completed so that losses can be assessed precisely. Nearly 8,000 acres of paddy have been affected by this disaster, but the government has made it clear that no farmer will be deprived of compensation.

The sensitivity of the Mann government is evident from the fact that it has paid special attention to early-sown varieties such as PUSA 131, PR 132, and PR 114, since these were the most severely affected. This step demonstrates that the government is not limiting itself to mere announcements but is adopting a scientific and practical approach to deliver real relief to farmers.

Acting swiftly on the advice of agricultural experts, the government has also begun immediate measures to protect crops from viral and fungal diseases—draining excess water from fields, using zinc, spraying insecticides, and applying COC (Cocide) 2000 at the right time. These steps will help farmers overcome the current crisis and safeguard their future yields.

This move by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government once again proves that farmers are the true priority in Punjab. In this hour of crisis, the government’s support will not only provide relief but also instill confidence among farmers. The special girdawari and compensation scheme will further strengthen Punjab’s agricultural policies and guide farmers towards a hopeful future.
