Court sends Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri murder accused to 7-day police custody

On Saturday, a court in this city ordered the main accused in the murder of Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri to serve a seven-day police custody.

Sandeep Singh, the accused, was brought before the court under heavy security.

Suri was killed on Friday while taking part in a protest in broad daylight.

He was protesting against the management of the Gopal Mandir, one of the busiest locations in the city, on Majitha Road after reports that some broken idols of Hindu gods had been found by the side of the road, an act he deemed sacrilegious.

Singh was arrested and the .32 bore licenced weapon used in the commission of the crime was seized. Police said he operates a clothing store close to the protest location.
