A case of kidney racket has come to light in a renowned hospital in Dera Bassi, Punjab. Where the doctors of the hospital took out the kidney of a person who was in debt and did not even give him money. Kapil, 28, of Haryana’s Sirsa district had a debt of lakhs. He met the hospital administration through a broker and a deal was struck to sell the kidney for 10 lakhs. Surprisingly, the hospital administration took out the kidney as well and did not give him money, after which he informed the police. It is alleged that Kapil was kept locked in a room at a secluded place for four days after the operation.
This is how the matter came to light
The matter came to light when a 28-year-old Sirsa resident allegedly donated a kidney posing as the 33-year-old son of a Sonipat resident to earn money. According to one of the victims, all the documents were forged and he was promised Rs 10 lakh in exchange for the kidney. He alleged that he was paid only Rs 4.5 lakh after his kidney was removed and instead of being sent home, he was locked in a room.
Two hospital staff arrested
Police arrested two employees of Derabassi private hospital on charges of organ trade and forgery. Senior police officers have reported the matter to the Director, Research and Medical Education (DRME). A three-member SIT has been formed to investigate the matter. Police have reportedly detected manipulation of blood samples and large-scale forgery of documents (Aadhaar and voter cards) to match DNA reports.
Case registered, investigation underway
A member of the SIT said that the employees of Indus International Hospital, Dera Bassi, are being questioned in connection with the sale of kidneys. A case has been registered under sections 419, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC and sections 19 and 20 of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994.
