Inconclusive Meeting Held Between Punjab Transport Department With Roadways Workers And Union

In the meeting called to end the strike of the transport workers in Punjab and consider the demands of the workers, there could be no coordination between the raw workers’ union and the state government. The government claimed the meeting to be successful while the union decided to continue with the strike terming the meeting as inconclusive.

Employees of Punjab Roadways, Panbus and PRTC will gherao the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh on 15th November. The representatives of the Roadways Union have claimed that their talks with the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Himanshu Jain at the Punjab Civil Secretariat on Monday remained inconclusive. However, the state government issued a press statement saying that the government has accepted all the demands of the roadways employees. The next meeting between the two sides has been fixed on December 12. The Director of Transport Department was also involved in this meeting.

State President of Roadways raw workers’ union Resham Singh has said that the union is firm on its demands and its strike will continue until the government immediately reinstates the conductor on the tank and cancels the transfer orders of the workers. Regarding the acceptance of the demands of the government, he said that the union has nothing to do with the statement of the government and no demand of the employees has been fulfilled in it.

After the meeting, the union leaders said that due to the obstinate attitude of the director, no problem could be resolved in the meeting. On November 15, the Chief Minister’s residence will be surrounded. Along with this, the strike will continue on Tuesday in all 27 depots of Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC.

In this meeting too, a demand letter has been submitted to the government on behalf of the union and assurance is being given by the government to complete the investigation in the conductor’s case in three days. Along with this, the employees have also been told to review the transfer order within seven days, but the union says that there is no need for investigation for the reinstatement of the conductor. All the evidence related to that case has already been given, which proves that the conductor is innocent.

This is the claim of the government

On Monday evening, a press statement was issued by the Punjab government saying that on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Transport Department has accepted the major demands of the union of raw employees of Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s office, in which Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Himanshu Jain and Director (Transport) Amandeep Kaur held discussions with the union representatives.

It included State President Resham Singh, Shamsher Singh Dhillon, Harkesh Kumar, Jagtar Singh and Daljit Singh. During the meeting, it was decided that the investigation against suspended conductor Preetpal Singh would be completed in three days in a time bound manner. The union had demanded a time-bound inquiry into the matter, which has been accepted by the state government. Also, the Transport Director has agreed to review the transfers of the employees transferred from Firozpur in seven days as per the rules of the department.

The government has assured the union representatives that the pending legitimate demands of the employees will be taken to the higher officials. A meeting will be held again on December 12 to take a decision on these.
