The Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership has introduced transformative changes in the education sector that have set a benchmark across the nation. At the state-level celebration of World Teachers’ Day held in Sri Anandpur Sahib, the Chief Minister hailed teachers as “nation builders” and urged the youth to reconnect with Punjab’s glorious heritage.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that teaching is not merely a profession but “a sacred mission to illuminate students’ futures.” As the son of a teacher himself, he expressed his deep understanding of the dedication and commitment with which teachers shape their students’ lives.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that after 55 years, the state government has initiated the construction of a heritage corridor to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib—a symbolic step to connect the new generation with Punjab’s historical and religious legacy. He called upon teachers to familiarize their students with Punjab’s proud history and culture, ensuring that future generations remain rooted in their traditions while embracing modernity.

During the event, the Chief Minister also praised teachers who demonstrated exceptional service during recent flood disasters. He revealed that the calamity damaged 3,200 government schools, 19 colleges, 8,500 kilometers of roads, and 2,500 bridges, yet Punjab’s people and teachers exemplified courage and responsibility. “Such examples are rare in world history—Punjab’s teachers are not just educators but true guides of society,” Mann stated.

The Chief Minister honored 71 outstanding teachers with State Teacher Awards, recognizing their exceptional contribution in shaping students’ futures. He explained that the word “Guru” derives from Sanskrit—“Gu” (darkness) and “Ru” (remover)—meaning “one who dispels darkness.” He noted that teachers spread knowledge, awareness, and enlightenment in society, and the Punjab government salutes their contribution.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann detailed the unprecedented steps taken to elevate education quality to international standards in Punjab. A total of 234 principals and education officers have received training in Singapore, 152 headmasters have completed advanced coaching at IIM Ahmedabad, and 144 primary teachers have finished specialized training at Turku University in Finland. He announced that another batch will travel to Finland in November. To free teachers from administrative duties and focus on their core responsibility—teaching—1,920 campus managers have been appointed.

The Chief Minister said that under the “Education Revolution” launched in 2022, the Punjab government has implemented comprehensive reforms in the education system. A total of 118 Schools of Eminence have been established, with ₹231.74 crore invested to date. These schools now provide world-class education to children from poor and middle-class families—remarkably, even private school students are now seeking admission to these institutions, proving the success of the Mann government’s education policy.

Students from these schools have achieved remarkable results in national competitive examinations like NEET, JEE, CLAT, and NIFT—265 students qualified for JEE Mains, 44 for JEE Advanced, and 848 for NEET.

The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s School Mentorship Program, under which civil officers are providing guidance to government school students. Additionally, Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) have gained new momentum—over 2.5 million parents have participated in PTMs organized across 19,200 government schools. Chief Minister Mann asserted that teachers’ dedication, students’ hard work, and the government’s visionary policies will collectively elevate Punjab’s future to new heights.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang, and several senior officials attended the event. The Mann government’s celebration was not merely a festivity but an inspiring message toward realizing the vision of “Prosperous Punjab through Education”—a Punjab where every child becomes an educated, self-reliant citizen proud of their heritage.
