Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written a letter to Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit, expressing anger over the premature removal of Punjab cadre IPS officer from the post of SSP of Chandigarh. He says that sending back the Punjab cadre IPS officer from the post of SSP of Chandigarh will disturb the balance between the states in the working matters of the union territory.
In a letter written to the Governor of Punjab, the Chief Minister informed him that traditionally an IPS officer of the Punjab cadre is posted as the SSP of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner of UT is appointed by an IAS officer of Haryana Cadre. Bhagwant Mann said that he was surprised to know that Kuldeep Singh Chahal, a 2009 batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre, has been sent back to Punjab prematurely.
Punjab officer may be appointed soon
Seeking the Governor's intervention in the matter, the Chief Minister said that the state government would soon send a panel of three Punjab cadre IPS officers for the post of SSP Chandigarh. He expressed hope that the IPS officer of Punjab cadre would soon be posted as SSP Chandigarh.
