Punjab government schools will soon soar on the wings of history, where students will receive daily patriotic inspiration and exposure to the world of technology. While education is undergoing a revolution under the leadership of Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, a historic initiative has now been launched to directly connect students with the country’s defense and high-tech capabilities. Education Minister Sardar Harjot Singh Bains has written to the Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, proposing to display retired MiG-21 fighter jets, dedicated to the nation’s defense, in state schools, enabling millions of students to take the first flight into their careers in defense and engineering.

Sardar Bains has requested the IAF Chief to display five MiG-21 jets in government schools in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Nangal, and Kharar. The Education Minister emphasized, “Together, we can pay a tribute to the MiG-21 that will live on forever and instill a sense of patriotism and dedication in our future generations.”

The primary objective of this initiative is to inspire thousands of government school students in Punjab to pursue careers in defense, engineering, aerospace technology, and related fields. Sardar Harjot Singh Bains stated that the Punjab government plans to partner with the Indian Air Force to organize programs to formally induct fighter jets into these schools to foster a spirit of excellence and dedication.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains saluted the IAF’s outstanding service to the nation and congratulated the MiG-21s on their recent formal retirement. He described the aircraft as “a symbol of courage, discipline, and dedication in India’s defense history.” He stated that these fighter aircraft, which played a key role in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, and the 1999 Kargil War, will continue to remind us of our great legacy. The Education Minister expressed confidence that the presence of these fighter aircraft in schools will inspire students to demonstrate courage, bravery, and determination in their daily lives.

Minister Bains stated that this unique initiative builds on the Punjab Government’s efforts, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to provide innovative and transformative education. The purpose of this letter from Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains is to have retired MiG-21 fighter aircraft stationed in Punjab’s “Schools of Eminence” to inspire students to become military officers and serve the nation. Several progressive initiatives have been taken under this initiative, including international training programs for teachers, to elevate the level of education.
