Bhagwant Mann: Punjab’s Operation Jiwan Jot has picked up pace under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with 31 vulnerable children rescued within just two days. The campaign aims to identify and protect children exposed to labour, neglect, or exploitation, particularly in high-risk areas across the state.

Officials said coordinated raids and inspections were carried out following credible inputs from child welfare agencies.

Multi-Agency Teams Lead Rescue Efforts

The rescue operations involved district administrations, police, labour department officials, and child protection units. Teams conducted checks at roadside eateries, industrial units, construction sites, and public spaces where children are often forced to work.

Rescued children were immediately shifted to safe shelters and provided food, medical check-ups, and counselling. Authorities confirmed that legal procedures were initiated against those found violating child protection laws.

Focus on Rehabilitation and Education

Beyond rescue, Operation Jiwan Jot places strong emphasis on rehabilitation and long-term care. Children are being connected to schools, skill development programmes, and welfare schemes to prevent them from slipping back into vulnerable conditions.

Officials noted that families of rescued children are also being counselled to address economic distress, which often pushes minors into labour.

CM Bhagwant Mann’s Push Against Child Exploitation

Chief Minister has repeatedly stated that child labour and exploitation will not be tolerated in Punjab. He has directed authorities to conduct regular inspections and maintain strict monitoring of areas known for violations.

The state government believes sustained action and community awareness are key to ensuring lasting impact.

Public Support and Awareness Crucial

Child rights activists have welcomed the recent rescues, calling them a positive step. They stressed that public vigilance and reporting play a critical role in identifying at-risk children and ensuring timely intervention.
