The devastating floods in Punjab severely affected people’s homes, fields, and daily lives. However, in this time of crisis, the Punjab government brought new hope to the affected citizens through “Operation Rahat.” Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, not only the administration but also cabinet ministers have been personally visiting villages, standing alongside the flood-affected families.
Education Minister Sardar Harjot Singh Bains has been tirelessly working to assist flood-affected people under “Operation Rahat.” He not only expedited relief operations at the government level but also personally came forward to support people. His family contributed ₹5 lakh to repair nearly 50 homes. He ensured arrangements for fogging and medicines, organized vaccinations for livestock, and kept his house open 24/7 for those in need. This brought significant relief to the affected families.
Minister Bains meets daily with administrative officials to monitor relief efforts in flood-hit villages. It has been decided that land inspection reports will be completed within three days, water and electricity restored within 24 hours, and damaged roads repaired within 48 hours. For the next three days, he will personally hold evening meetings with officials to ensure that there are no delays in the relief work.
His humanity was recently evident when the Congress party blocked the highway in Shri Anandpur Sahib, causing an ambulance carrying a critical patient to PGI Chandigarh to get stuck in traffic. Seeing this, Minister Bains immediately sent his pilot vehicle ahead and personally cleared the way, allowing the ambulance to proceed on time. The incident was captured on video and went viral on social media, earning him widespread praise. At the same time, questions were raised about Congress, as blocking roads during a flood crisis not only obstructs administrative work but also puts lives at risk.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has been actively helping flood-affected people. His family also contributed, with his wife, Sardarni Suhinder Kaur Ji, distributing relief materials and fodder for animals in the Nissoke village of the Ajnala constituency. Minister Singh personally went to riverbanks to construct embankments and assist the affected people.
Rural Development Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sodhi toured the affected areas, delivering relief materials, ration, and drinking water. From the very first day of the floods, Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has stood with the affected families. In Ghullewala village, where there was a threat of a broken embankment, Minister Bhullar worked alongside locals to save it and immediately distributed relief materials.
Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal also visited villages personally to supervise relief work, ensuring that help reached every needy person. The Punjab government stands with its citizens in every difficult time. Under “Operation Rahat,” 16 trucks of relief material from Patiala were sent to flood-affected areas. Health Minister Balbir Singh ensured that medicines, drinking water, and essential supplies reached every needy person.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has been actively involved in delivering aid to flood-affected families. He personally coordinated with volunteers at the Derba office to prepare relief kits and ensured that no family was left without assistance.
