Punjab cabinet nod to regularise services of over 14,200 teachers

With a view to strengthen the education sector in Punjab, the Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Saturday approved regularization of services of 14,239 teachers.

The decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Mansa on Saturday.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the cabinet has decided to regularize the jobs of 14,239 teachers who have completed 10 years or more of service.

Of these, 7,902 teachers are those who have completed 10 years or more in service, while 6,337 are those who have a gap in regular service due to unavoidable circumstances.

These teachers will get regular salary, allowances and leave as per the policy of the government.

The cabinet also approved the creation of 485 posts of house doctors along with 1,445 posts of paramedics in the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

The move is aimed at providing quality healthcare facilities to the people at their doorstep. It will also open new doors of jobs for qualified doctors and paramedical staff.

Cracking down on fraudulent financial institutions, the cabinet has approved the Punjab Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Rules, 2023.

The cabinet noted that there has been an increase in the number of financial establishments in the country who are cheating the public, especially the middle class and the poor, by making impractical or unprofessional promises or by offering extremely attractive rates of interest or rewards.

The cabinet approved the acceptance of the recommendations of the Sixth Punjab Finance Commission from the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26, which includes devolution of 3.5 per cent of the state’s net tax revenue to local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions.
