Punjab Cabinet urges Centre to relax specifications for wheat purchase in view of crop damage

Wheat harvesting has started in Punjab. But this time the crops of the farmers have been damaged to a great extent due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms. Wheat has suffered the most. The wheat crop has fallen on the ground which is difficult to cut with the combine.

Punjab Cabinet has asked the Centre to relax norms for wheat procurement in view of crop damage due to unseasonal rains.

Now farmers are forced to harvest wheat by hand. First the farmer’s crop was damaged due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm. Many farmers are complaining that this time their agriculture is being hit all round and they have no other way than to see this situation in poverty.

In this, a farmer is Satnam Singh of Sangrur, Punjab, who is a resident of village Laddi. Satnam Singh is harvesting wheat by hand in his four acres of land. Farmer Satnam Singh told that this time also the effect of seasonal rains has been seen on his wheat crop. Due to this they have suffered huge losses. Satnam Singh says, earlier he used to harvest the crop with a combine which was very cheap and could be done in less time. 1200 to 1300 rupees were spent for harvesting wheat per acre.
