Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Police continued their sustained crackdown on narcotics networks under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, arresting 66 alleged drug smugglers on Day 513 of the ongoing operation.
Major Seizures In Latest Raids
The operation, carried out across the state, led to the recovery of 2.2 kilograms of heroin, 11 kilograms of poppy husk, and 505 intoxicant pills from those apprehended. Police also seized ₹5 lakh in suspected drug money during the raids, underscoring the scale of the trafficking networks being targeted.
Rehabilitation Alongside Enforcement
In line with the campaign’s dual-track approach, police said 7 individuals were counselled and persuaded to voluntarily undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment during the latest drive. Authorities have consistently maintained that tackling substance abuse requires both strict legal action against traffickers and support systems for those seeking recovery.
A Campaign Crossing 500 Days
Launched under CM Mann’s direction with the goal of making Punjab a drug-free state, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ has now run for over 500 consecutive days, with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and district police conducting raids daily across all 28 police districts. The campaign has become one of the longest-running and most consistent anti-narcotics operations in Indian policing, combining intelligence-based enforcement with community-level rehabilitation efforts.
Government’s Continued Commitment
Officials reiterated that the campaign will continue with undiminished intensity, with teams focused on dismantling supply chains, apprehending traffickers, and curbing the circulation of narcotics across communities. The government has repeatedly pointed to the campaign’s scale and consistency as central to its broader strategy of tackling Punjab’s long-standing drug problem.
With Day 513 seizures adding to a cumulative tally running into the tens of thousands of arrests since the drive began, police say sustained daily operations remain central to the state’s anti-narcotics strategy, alongside continued rehabilitation outreach for those affected by addiction.
